The 20-Step Silk Process

Patent Pending

All of our hand-painted/hand-dyed silks are put through the following 20-Step process:

1.    Each silk is washed to remove any residue or oils from being handled.

2.    They are rinsed several times to remove any detergent residue.

3.    They are then suspended and stretched using special Chinese 3-prong silk hooks.

4.    Each one is hand-painted/hand-dyed using special silk dyes.

5.    They are then allowed to completely dry to allow for full dye absorption in to the silk fibers.

6.    Each silk is thoroughly inspected for any flaws in the hand-painting/hand-dying process.

7.    Then each silk is individually wrapped in preparation for the steam-setting process.  This insures that the dyes are completely set into the silk fibers and allows for washing without color fading.

8.    Then they are rolled around a specially made steaming suspension tube.

9.    The steaming suspension tube is then suspended within a specially created steaming chamber.

10.  The silks are then steamed to set the silk dyes to insure bright and vivid colors.

11.  The silk suspension tube is then removed from the steaming chamber and allowed to completely cool.

12.  The silks are removed and allowed to rest.

13.  The silks are then inspected again for any dye “bleed-throughs”.

14.  The silks are washed again to remove any excess silk dyes.

15.  The silks are again rinsed several more times to remove any detergent residue.

16.  The silks are rinsed again with a special Dye Fixative to promote color and wash fastness and to also make the silk resistant to perspiration and seawater.

17.  The silks are rinsed again in cool clear water.

18.  The silks are rinsed in a special silk softening agent to restore the silk’s natural softness and luster.

19.  The silks are then dried completely.

20.  The silks are then inspected for the final time prior to being listed for sale.
